Poblet is situated in the Conca de Barberà, in the province of Tarragona. It´s next to the historic monastery near Montblanc , Vimbodí and L'Espluga de Francolí. Poblet is surrounded by thick forest with lots of vieiety in its wildlife.
Poblet is a Cistercian Monastery, anulled by Spanish law in 1835 it was refounded in 1940 with monks from the same order from Italy. The monastery belongs to the Cistercian Congregation under the crown of Aragon. Other Monasteries and Nunneries in the same congregation include Santa Maria de Vallbona and de Santa Maria de Valldonzella, Santa María de Solius and Santes Creus.
Poblet Monastery and its surroundings offer multiple possibilities both for groups and families. Our house is situated just 800m from the Monastery. The following are suggestions for other possible activities in the zone.
Tamarit can be found just 7 km away from Tarragona. Here you can enjoy the quietest beaches of all the Catalan Coast from Tamarit castle to the lighthouse at Torredembarra. You can also take part in adventure sports and enjoy quiet coves like the Cala Jovera.
At the end of 2000 Tarragona was declared a world heriage site by UNESCO due to important monuments it possesses. Tarraco was an important Roman City and there are still Roman remains from this period. Alongside Mérida and Córdoba it is the Spanish city with the most and best preserved buildings from the Roman period. You can walk through the amphitheatre, along the walls, admire Roman aqueducts etc. For sure you will be surprised by the architectural beauty.
